Classification of Membrane Structure

(1)Tensioned Membrane Structure

This kind of structure can be formed by steel column and steel frame support or steel cable tensioning. Its shape is very graceful, lively and full of vitality. It is easy to integrate with nature, and meets peoples desire of recovering the pristine simplicity. It is suitable for small and medium span buildings, also suitable for large-span stadiums, swimming gyms and other stand canopy structure of large public utilities.

               

(2)Skeleton and Cable System Supported Membrane Structure

The skeleton membrane structure is membrane materials covered on stable skeleton. It is easy to construct and install. The force analysis is also simple and explict. The cable dome membrane structure is a special case of skeleton membrane structure, but it is much difficult from theoretical analysis to construction. According to the different skeleton system, it can be used on small, large or super large sports facilities or public activity places. However, because its shape is restricted by the constraints of the skeleton system, the curve of the general membrane surface is more rigid and less flexible.

               

(3)Air-Supported Membrane Structure 

It is divided into air dome membrane structure, air rib membrane structure and air cushion membrane structure.

Air dome membrane structure is supported by a certain pressure difference from indoor and outdoor, which is produced by constantly pumping air into the dome, and floating the membrane roof. It doesnt need any support under the dome, so it is suitable for super large span buildings. It is generally used on large and medium-sized industrial environmental protection facilities and stadiums, also used on military and agricultural applications.

Air rib membrane structure is composed of a plurality of inflatable structures. It is easy to form a unique architectural form, generally used on street garden art pieces or small buildings.

The air cushion membrane structure generally uses ETFE material. It is made up by a number of unique bubbles in cushion form type by inflating separately to each bubble unit. With its high transmittance, it can create a fashionable and gorgeous night scene. Generally used in stadiums, streetscape and commercial facilities.
