Traits of Membrane Structure

(1) Light self-weight 

In large-span structure, membrane structure is one or several orders of magnitude lighter than the traditional structure, and the structural weight per unit area will not increase significantly with the increase of span. In the construction of large public buildings, it has a better cost performance.

          

(2)Beautiful Style and Trendy 

Membrane structure has made a breakthrough from the traditional architectural structure form. It is easy to make a variety of shapes, and rich in color, under the rendering of lights, it is easy to form a nightscape, and give people the enjoyment of modern beauty. Because of its technical advanced nature, the membrane structure is known as the high tech architecture in the twenty-first Century.
 
                 

(3)Economic Energy Consumption

The membrane material has a good light transmittance itself, as high as about 8%~20%, can make full use of natural light during the day time, without using artificial lighting, it can fully meet the needs of various sports contests. The light reflectivity rate of membrane material is above 80%, in the sunlight, the formation of soft diffused light indoor produce a comfort and dreamful feeling.
 
                            

(4)Speedy Construction

The production of membrane, cable and steel structure are completed in the factory, can be carried out simultaneously with the onsite reinforced concrete structure or component. When arrive at the construction site, the processes left is only connecting positioning and tensioning of the cable, steel and membrane structure, so the installation in the construction site is more civilized and fast.
 
                             

(5) Economic Efficient

Although the cost of membrane structure roofs is not very different from that of general structural roofs, the cost of daily maintenance of membrane structure is very small, which can be defined as "no maintenance structure". In the long run, the economic benefits are very obvious. If this kind of structure is used in the super long span buildings, it has a more prominent price advantage.
          
                            

(6)Safe and Reliable Use 

Because of the light weight and better seismic performance, membrane structure can tolerate large displacement and is not easy to collapse. The accidents of membrane structure turn not to cause property damage and casualty, and membrane materials are generally flame retardant, it is not easy to cause fire.
 
(7)Moblility

Membrane structure can be made into detachable structure, which is easy to transport when used on performing tours, exhibitions, and so on. For example, in May 2010, a large air-supported structure of PLA Air Force was moved to the Ma Lan base in Xinjiang from Qinhuangdao city in 15 days.

(8)Wide Range of Usage

For climatic conditions, it is suitable for vast area from Alaska to Saudi Arabia. In terms of size, it varies from small work as single tents or garden pieces to large coverage construction of tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of square meters. Some people even imagined covering a small city to achieve artificial nature with the membrane structure.
